“A true researcher looks for solutions to problems organically, continually growing their knowledge through their experiences”

Terence Tang, PhD, R. TCMP, R.Acu.
Born and raised in Yuen Long, Hong Kong, Terence Tang became a Medical Laboratory Technologist in a private hospital working within four main disciplines (Clinical Chemistry, Hematology, Microbiology, and Histology) growing to appreciate working directly with a variety of patients, including infants, youth, adolescents, adults, and seniors.
Terence immigrated to Canada in 1992 and attended York University to complete his BSc in 1996. Building on his Canadian experience, he returned to Hong Kong in 1997 to work as a Cancer Research Assistant with the University of Hong Kong. With a focus on cancer genetics and molecular cancer therapy, Terence pursued his Master of Philosophy degree. Terence then completed his PhD in molecular cancer therapy 2006. During his PhD program, Terence’s research focused on translational medicine to conduct preclinical studies of chemotherapy.
As his PhD studies came to a close, Terence took the opportunity to reflect and entered a Buddhist monastery in Taiwan. There, he deepened his self-awareness, reflected, and concentrated on Buddhist practices. With lessons learned and refreshed grounding, Terence came back to Canada to pursue training in cancer therapy as a postdoctoral fellow with Sunnybrook Health Science Centre, committing three-years towards establishing metronomic therapy, a treatment to reduce to side-effects in chemo-therapy used in liver cancer.
In 2008, after presenting research findings at the AACR International Conference in Hong Kong, Terence went to Beijing to visit a world renowned Chinese Medicine Clinic, TongRenTang cementing his belief in the practice and stimulating a devotion to the practice. After accepting a Cancer Research Associate position with the University of Waterloo, Terence embarked on a learning journey that resonated with his passion and began studying at College of Traditional Chinese Medicine & Pharmacology Canada where he graduated in 2012 and has since registered with the College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists of Ontario and opened his practice in the Purple Buddha Health and Wellness centre.
